Ongoing Parking Issues
Updates
An article appeared in the Ottawa Citizen on Monday, February 2nd titled: Deachman: Church prays for bylaw not to ticket their cars on Sunday (read it here). It covers the parking ticket situation, the limitations of street parking in and around the church, and our ongoing novena to St. Jude for an immediate relief from Bylaw ticketing during Sunday Mass in the short-term, and for the City to permanently change the parking around the perimeter of the church from 1hr to 3hrs (thereby matching the times further East and West on Fourth and further North on Percy.
CBC picked up on the story, contacting, Fr. Tim to discuss the issues our Parishioners have had and continue to face when attending Mass. The 8 min interview aired on Wednesday, February 4th as part of Alan Neal’s All in a Day podcast. Click here to have a listen.
Glebe Parking Email Campaign
On Wednesday, September 24th, Blessed Sacrament hosted a ‘TOWN HALL’ meeting organized by the City of Ottawa. The purpose was to present the City’s proposal to improve traffic flow on Bank Street. Fr. Tim spoke up about the need for 3-Hour parking throughout the Residential Area of the Glebe. There was a suggestion from the City Representative to create ‘bike lanes’ on Percy Street, Lyon Street, and Craig Street. This idea would be a hinderance to traffic mobility and will further exacerbate the already very limited parking in and around the church.
As a Community, we need to engage in an Email Campaign to request 3-Hour parking and to oppose the increase of ‘bike lanes’ on Percy Street and nearby streets. The person to email is Lise Guevremont (lise.guevremont@ottawa.ca). There will be ANOTHER ‘TOWN HALL’ Meeting on Wednesday, October 1st at 5:30 PM in the Parish Hall. Please plan to attend and to make a point of expressing your concerns to this second group and to Lise via her email.
Thank you.
